Our next business meeting will be on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Due to the current COVI19 situation, we will be meeting virtually via Zoom.
The program will feature Susan Evans, the volunteer coordinator at Echo Glen Children's Center. Echo Glen is a Washington State juvenile detention facility and a school operated by the Issaquah School District. The facility has approximately 135 male and female youth in residence, ranging in age from 10 to 20 years old. They come from every part of the state, and all have great untapped potential.
Nearly all the youth have experienced childhood trauma. This includes homelessness, gang violence, physical abuse, domestic violence, and sexual abuse--which affects almost all the incarcerated girls. These traumas influence the actions that lead to a child's incarceration. Many of their families have also experienced intergenerational trauma, which is often a continuous cycle--one that Echo Glen staff is determined to break. Nearly all these young people have dangerously low self-esteem; they crave positive attention from adults and need good role models.
We encourage prospective members to attend one of our meetings/and or activity groups. Guests are always welcome! And it's the best way to get to know some of our members and to see if we would be a good fit for you. If you are interested in being our guest at a meeting, please email us at email@example.com. We'd love to hear from you!
